Strawberries (April/May)

U-Pick
Come out and pick your own strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, or raspberries.  Or bring the kids to the pea patch to gather up some purple hull peas.  And check back as our vineyard grows and see when the muscadines will be producing!  Food is always more fun and enjoyable if you choose it right off the vine!

Kids Farm

Inspired by a rich childhood filled with a sister-like friendship and two little girls who knew how to use their imagination, The Kids Farm at Holly Springs Homestead is a reflection of a childhood spent playing for hours on end during long, carefree summers.

In today’s times, kids don’t always have the chance to enjoy down time.

The very best times in childhood were those where imagination was all we had and we used things around us to create, pretend and discover. It was the best childhood a kid could have in my opinion.

At The Kids Farm we’ve recreated a few of our favorite things for kids who may not otherwise have the chance to test their resourcefulness, play freely, imagine, Dream and connect with the land.

It’s our goal to provide kids with that chance, if only for a day. There’s no rushing. No deadlines. No lines…. just come as you are and spend the day for some good Ole fashioned play.

Relax. Daydream. & Be a Kid

☆ Adeline’s Mud Pie Kitchen is an outdoor kitchen complete with a set of “moms” dishes to play with. You’ll use an old fashioned hand pump to get water to make mud pies, do dishes, etc.

Ovens, sinks, cabinets and a table for four make up the kitchen. A kids pickin’ garden is close by with kid sized veggies for kids to enjoy.

☆The Club House is a two story place for kids to hang out, play house or take in the beautiful views. The upper level is a “house” where you can play dolls, office or have a club meeting. Anything your imagination allows. And when your done slide down to the next adventure.

☆The Human Sized Tic Tac Toe is a life sized replica of an old fashioned game typically played on paper. Use yourself or the handcrafted X’s and O’s to get three in a row and win!

☆The Giant Tee Pee is a great place to reinvent the old western times for a game of cowboys and Indians. All you need is imagination and you could be back in the wild wild west. For now we like the openness of the structure with a 40 foot tall center pole made from local bamboo. Who knows, the next time you come it may be decorated with animal hides just like the pioneers did to keep out the elements of sun, wind, rain and snow.

☆Buckin’ Barrels are just plain kid sized fun! Hop on and try to stay on!

☆Crazy Croquet is a quirky spin on the high falutin’ game of croquet. It’s the same concept but what makes it crazy is that our wooden croquet balls offer a twist…. do your best to knock the balls through the handcrafted “hoops” with your club. Tons of crazy family fun!

☆Hay Maze Mountain is fun for all ages. The twists and turns may evolve over time so who knows how it will look from year to year…. that’s the beauty of free, creative play…..spending time using your imagination is good for the soul! Inspiration comes from our days playing in an old barn loft where we made tunnels and forts, from the hay stored in the barn.

☆The Wagon Depot is where to be to catch the hay ride around the farm. Sit a spell on the bench and wait for the next hay wagon to stop by. The ride is powered on some days by the old Ford tractor that has worked on this farm for the last 25 years and was used by Gilbert Alston, Luke’s grandpa. Other days the ride will feature Big Green – this is Farmer Luke’s favorite toy…☆ahem☆ tractor! Either way, you will get to see the sites and hear the story of the farm while you ride.
☆The Picnic Area is a quiet and beautiful area tucked away from everything else and shaded by two massive Pecan trees. Squirrels play freely in the trees that hold old fashioned rope swings for your enjoyment. Kid or adult, swinging in a swing just brings peace to the soul! Enjoy a picnic lunch on the picnic tables or just sit and enjoy the shade.
Around the farm you’ll find great opportunities for photographing your family to remember your visit to Holly Springs Homestead. Amazing mountain views, lush greenery and foliage as well as fun photo props make up lots of great backdrops to snap a picture!

We’re not done! We are always dreaming up new ways to recreate our childhoods and add new games and fun to the Kids Farm.

We hope that you get some downtime as you take a step back in time and enjoy the simple pleasure of free play at the farm.
